Total Operating Income per capita, 1990-2001, 1991-2002

Abstract

Operating income went up at all five groups and the purchasing power of each beat inflation as determined by the Consumer Price Index. The raw income numbers are so close because the calculation is the ratio of two highly correlated (operating income and population) variables. Because these numbers are so close together, there are two charts similar to what was done with Total Operating Expenditures per capita.

This total is made up of parts that had a more complex history. From 2001 to 2002, state operating income for the Fourth Quartile and its subset, the 95th percentile libraries. A similar 2001-2002 drop can be seen in other operating income for all groups of libraries.

There is a Rank Order Table for this variable in 2002 and a summary table of the ranks by state from 1992-2002.

A line plot of the mean dollars in total income for the first three quartiles, by year
A line plot of the mean dollars in total income for the fourth quartile and the 95th percentile, by year
