Current Serials Subscriptions per 1,000 population, 1991-2002

Abstract

Total subscriptions at these libraries increased between 17 and 25% for the groups but by looking at the subscriptions per population served, it is clear that except for the very smallest libraries, subscriptions per population served declined over the period. Subscriptions grew but people grew more quickly at all but the First Quartile libraries. A look at total subscriptions shows that the largest libraries have many more subscriptions but not as many per person. Of course, the largest libraries have more volumes but many of them will not circulate often. However, note that the circulation per capita fell at the two smallest groups--the ones that added the most volumes over the period.

There is a Rank Order Table for this variable in 2002 and a summary table of the ranks by state from 1992-2002.
