State Operating Income per capita, 1990-2001, 1991-2002

Abstract

State income went up at all five groups for the period and was greater than inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index. Note that the larger libraries have more state income and that state income at the largest libraries, while increasing over the period, fell from 2001 to 2002. There is anecdotal evidence from various states that indicates that some state's income fell and that library budgets were cut. In states where the libraries rely heavily on state income for a part of their operating income, this effect would be pronounced. As with other expenditure and income categories, there are two charts because the numbers are so close because the calculation is the ratio of two highly correlated variables.

There is a Rank Order Table for this variable in 2002 and a summary table of the ranks by state from 1992-2002.

A line plot of the state operating income per capita population at the first three quartiles, by year
A line plot of the state operating income per capita population at the fourth quartile and 95th percentile, by year
