Other paid FTE Staff per 25,000 population, 1991-2002

Abstract

Other paid staff per 25,000 population shows increases for all but the smallest libraries but as is discussed in the ratio of librarians to population served there are anomalous values in the First Quartile data and also this calculation is prone to disruption by the small changes in small variables. Subsequent analysis will examine data from these libraries more closely.

Here we find an more mixed picture than we found with the Total FTE Staff or FTE Librarianswhere there was an inverse relationship between the smaller libraries which had more staff in these two categories per population served. ALA-MLS Librarians did not show such a pattern because the smallest libraries had far fewer of this kind of librarian than the other groups. Given the drop in 2002 for First Quartile libraries that looks anomalous, we will have to await the secondary analysis of this variable at these libraries.

There is a Rank Order Table for this variable in 2002 and a summary table of the ranks by state from 1992-2002.

Chart

This chart of the mean number of total paid staff in FTE by the libraries grouped into the four quartiles by the population of the legal service area with a fifth group that is also a part of the fourth quartile. On this chart, the means by year show the libraries in population served employ more people as the size of the population served increases. Further conclusions are below.
