Other Operating Income per capita, 1990-2001, 1991-2002

Abstract

Other income went up at all five groups for the period and was greater than inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index. However, there was a fall from 2001 (or 2000 for the First Quartile) to 002 for all groups. Compare this decline to that of the largesr libraries have a decline from 2001 to 2002 in state income but not in local or total operating income. Other income is inversely related to size of the library as measured by these national averages with the libraries in the First Quartile showing the greatest dollar and percent increases.

Is the decline we see in the First Quartile similar to that seen in the anomalies that show up in some of the First Quartile plots of ratios involving staff variables, such as Staff Expendtiures per capita or Total FTE Staff per 25,000 population or others such as Librarians per 25,000 population? I don't believe so, I think we are seeing an adjustment in the income patterns of libraries. Total income is rising for these libraries but "other" income is not. These anomalies are discussed separately here and here.

There is a Rank Order Table for this variable in 2002 and a summary table of the ranks by state from 1992-2002.

A line plot of other operating per capita population at the first three quartiles, by year
A line plot of other operating income per capita population at the fourth quartile and 95th percentile, by year
