PLDF3 Data

There are currently two kinds of datasets: individual state spreadsheets and files of the complete dataset.

Complete Data

These sets of data contain all of PLDF3. You can download the zipped files or they are available on CD if anyone prefers them in that format.

Spreadsheets of PLDF3 State Data

The files here are .csv files by state and they are derived from the PLDF3 dataset. .csv files are what, in the old days—about two or three years ago—one called "comma-delimited" files. Open Office Calc and the dreaded Excel will read .csv files readily. These files are substantially smaller than the Excel files offered here before. As a result, unzipped files are offered more frequently than in the past.

When the files are zipped, they have been converted to zip files from the .csv files produced by SAS from the master SAS file. I have zipped most of them up to make downloading easier. When the files are unzipped, the files will have the .csv filename but the extension will change from "zip" to "csv", for example: pldf3al.zip will unzip to pldf3al.csv. If these files are too big for your connection, let me know and we can figure a way to get you the data.

The files are in order by state, year, newkey, then span.

In the chance that you found this Web page by a direct link, these are public library data from the National Center for Education Statistics, from each of the public libraries in the U.S., rearranged in a longitudinal file, that is, data from these libraries are available here over time. There is exhausting documentation for these data.
