3.1. Eligibility Variables

Does the institution meet the NCES criteria to be included in this dataset? I believe an institution must answer yes to each of these questions to be included.

The documentation indicates that "child" institutions are included in the dataset but for research purposes only. A child institution:

...does not respond directly to the ALS or IPEDS data collections. The data for such an institution is aggregated with and reported by its "parent" institution.

For some analytical purposes, therefore, child data should be excluded because the data are included with those of the parent institution. The variable CYPARCH below, is the variable to pay attention to exclude these kinds of data.
