
Washington, DC - Robert Willard, Executive Director of the U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information Science (NCLIS) announced the selection of Denise M. Davis as Director of Statistics and Surveys as of June 1, 1999.
In naming Davis, Mr. Willard stated, "The Commission and the library and information services community are fortunate to have Denise Davis as Director of Statistics and Survey. As a former Maryland state data coordinator for the U.S. Department of Education, Denise is familiar with the Library Statistics Program and has extensive experience in the fields of data collection and library development and services. In addition, Denise was instrumental in facilitating the development and evaluation of Sailor, Maryland's Online Public Information Network."
Davis comes to NCLIS from her position as Senior Strategic Product Marketing Manager, Academic Market, Information Access Company, The Gale Group. She has more than 15 years experience as an academic and public librarian, including serving as Head, Materials Management, Howard County Library, Maryland; Public Library Consultant, Division of Library Development and Services, Maryland Department of Education; and Coordinator, Electronic Reference Services, and Associate Librarian, University of Maryland Libraries.
Davis has an M.L.S. from the College of Library and Information Services, University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland, and a B.A. in Political Science from Rutgers University, Douglass College, New Brunswick, New Jersey. From 1996 to 1998 she taught Introduction to Information Technology in Libraries and Information Centers at the Catholic University of America, College of Library and Information Services, Washington, DC.
The U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information Science is a permanent, independent agency of the Federal government charged by Public Law 91-345 to advise the President and Congress on national and international library and information policies and plans.
