Washington, DC. - The U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information Science (NCLIS) will co-sponsor the 4th Northumbria International Conference on Performance Measurement in Libraries & Information Services: an IFLA satellite preconference sponsored by the IFLA Section on Statistics. The 4th Northumbria International Conference is organized and sponsored by the Association of Research Libraries, the Oakland Library Consortium, NCLIS, the University of Arizona Library, Arizona State University Library, and Texas A&M University Sterling C. Evans Library.
Following three highly successful conferences in 1995, 1997, and 1999, the School of Information Studies, University of Northumbria at Newcastle, UK, is pleased to join NCLIS in announcing its 4th conference in 2001. The preconference, "Meaningful Measures for Emerging Realities" will take place from Sunday, August 12, 2001 to Thursday, August 16, 2001, at the Sheraton Station Square Conference Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The focus on meaningful measures will be spotlighted by speakers including Peter Young, Library of Congress; Christie Koontz and Dean Jue, Florida State University; Geoffrey Ford, University of Bristol; Anna Maria Tammaro, Firenze University Press; Rush Miller, University of Pittsburgh and Sherrie Schmidt, Arizona State University; and Peter Brophy, Centre for Research in Library & Information Management. With 14 parallel sessions and a poster session, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of assessment and measurement projects being conducted in libraries and other information organizations around the world.
