Carol Diehl earned a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an M.S. in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and a Post Graduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout & Steven’s Point.
Ms. Diehl was a Trustee of the Sturm Memorial Library, Director of the Board of Education, School District Manawa, Director of Library Media Services and Grant Consultant, School District of New London, Wisconsin. She also was a lecturer in Education and Human Services, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
As an active member of the American Library Association, she served as Councilor-at-Large (1998-2004). She also served as chair of several groups: Advocacy Sub-Committee, White House Conference Committee, Legislative Assembly, AASL Legislation Committee, and the ALTA Legislation Committee. She was vice-chair of the ALTA Trustee Leadership Seminars Committee, as well as a member of the Membership Committee and Legislation Committee. She also served as chair of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) District Administrator’s Award Committee, 2001-02, and was a member of the AASL White House Task Force (1989-91).
On the state and regional level, she has been active in various library and related associations. In Wisconsin, she served on the Executive Board of the Library Trustees Association; as delegate to the Second White House Conference on Library and Information Science, and as president of the Wisconsin School Library Media Association. She was appointed by the Governor to be vice-chair of the Council on Library and Network Development.
Among Ms. Diehl’s awards are the ALA/ALTA National Advocacy Honor Roll, Phi Delta Kappa, Wisconsin School Library Media Specialist of the Year, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in America, International Who’s Who of Professionals, Who’s Who in American Women, International Book of Honor, IDEA Fellow, and Sturm Memorial Library Citation.
Ms. Diehl has held a variety of positions in the profession of librarianship, including Director of Library media Services for two school districts, and served as the grant writer for both school and public libraries. She secured LSCA grants that formed the basis of the construction of the Sturm Memorial Library and the renovation of the New London Public Library. Another awarded grant joined the references of a public and school library via fiber cable allowing patrons in the entire district to access resources of both institutions. She served on the state board for retired educators.
